So, we finally made the leap...today D. picked up his first prescription from Jim's Pharmacy, and tomorrow I will be picking up mine. Bye bye, Rite Aide! Woo Hoo! We did it...we broke the chains from the corporate drug store and went straight for the neighborhood one instead. Awesome. Always best to get your drugs from the same town in which you bank...keep the money circulating.
On a lighter note, thanks to S. for the info. on henna hair dyes from Lush.com. It's cheaper and healthier for me to use henna than it is for me to search for any other color alternative.
And also, a quick jaunt around town this afternoon yielded pitiful results for clothing NOT made in China. Dang. Bay Variety was a complete wash...everything I found there was made in China. And then...onto Tiger Lily...all made in China. Onto a visit with Alley Cat Boutique...very cute, not all made in China...but ALL V-E-R-Y expensive. Grumble.
My make-up samples came in the mail from Alima! Fabulous stuff. I haven't tried it yet, but the samples are "ample" and they came with more FREE samples. Wow! So, I'll let you know what I think after I have a chance to use it for a few days. I got 8 different colors/products...and the amounts will truly last me for quite awhile. Plus, (I know it might be silly for me to be this excited about it...but) they actually wrote "Thank You, Melissa" in pink glitter pen on my bill. See, that's the personal touch that makes me happy as a consumer.
To wrap it up...I listened to the State of the Union this evening. I'm not going to carry-on about my thoughts on the actual speech (though I love political rhetoric of all types- whether or not I agree), but I am going to say this...it is every American's civic duty to be informed of the opinions and plans of our governing officials and to make know their opinions and requests, whether they be in favor or in opposition to those in power. It saddens me when I hear people say..."I can't stand (fill in the blank) so I'm not going to listen." That is ignorant and immature. A responsible citizen listens with an open mind and then formulates or strengthens or changes an opinion that will ultimately affect their next vote. That is the purpose of democracy. Democracy can only exist if its constituency is informed and educated. That is the only avenue to a healthy and free society.
Okay...I will dismount from my soap box and pour myself one more glass of wine before I fall into bed.
