This is by far the coolest website I've found in a long time! I highly suggest you take a peek at it and bookmark it for continual use.
This site is a database of thousands of products we use everyday. It provides the product, ingredients, an overall rating (low, moderate, high) for the product's toxicity, and then a breakdown of each ingredient with its own rating and an explanation of why it has been given that rating.
Not a surprise: many of the products we think are safe, natural, and/or organic are fairly high on their scale! I even found out that some of my beloved Burt's products are higher than I had expected. For example, my son's baby wash and shampoo? A "moderate" rating of 4 (due to the fragrance). My garden tomato toner? 4! Grr....
But the even cooler part is that the site allows you to easily find dozens of other products that rate lower but do the same thing! And they directly link you to websites where you can order or find more information about the products.
They also provide a PDF of a brochure you can print and fold to fit in your wallet that lists the tips for choosing the safest products (so reading the labels is easier to translate into plain English).
